Question : Printers not listed in the Directory

I have installed a new printer locally to a users workstation, it's actually a label printer.  I want to share this for everyone else and have ticked "List in the directory". However it's not showing up and I can't add it to anyone elses machine.

I sort of had this problem before with another printer but I got around that bu typing the server name in and then it list the printer, however doing a "Find Now" never displays it.

Other printers that have existed a while ar elisted in the directory fine.

I have a Window 2003 domain the schema is updated to R2.

Answer : Printers not listed in the Directory

Hello edwalters,

on the server or pc you have installed the printer

Start > run > cmd {enter}  > net stop spooler {enter} Net start Spooler {enter}

By default you cannot see Printers in Active directory, even if you ticked the "List In Directory" option when you set them up. You can however locate them  as follows,

Start Active Directory Users and Computers (under administrative tools)
Right click your domain name and select FIND
Change the default setting of "Users, Contacts and Groups" to "Printers"
And select "Find Now"

You will see the printers listed below.

To set Active Directory users and computers to list them all the time select View > select "Users, Groups and Computers as containers"
Then simply select the computer (in the computers OU) or the Domain controller (In the Domain Controllers OU" and the printers available on that machine will be visible on the right hand pane.
