Question : no sound after reinstalling win xp..

I had to reinstall windows xp due to a virus and i had sound blaster 5.1 from a while back.  i didnt notice that it recognized it as new hardware since technically it wasnt "new".  I went ahead and installed the software they provided but no sound at all.. not even system sounds or even modem dial up sounds.  it says the device is recognised, enabled and working properly.. i dont know what else to do.. i went thru the troubleshooting deal for the hardware and everything passed except i didnt do the BIOS changing stuff i dont know how to do that without messing eveyrthing up and i am sure its somthing more simple.. is it? please help!!! this is the only thing left from me having a newly clean and smooth running computer i have been fixing kinks for 3 weeks and its nearly done..!! please helppp.. thanks!

Answer : no sound after reinstalling win xp..

Sound to me like an Add-on Sound Card occupying a PCI slot on your motherboard.

If this is the case, then go to the Creative site I listed above and download the drivers.  (you will need to know what model of card you have installed...  Again, open the case and look at the card.  You may have to pull it out, but it really is not hard.  Just be sure you reseat it correctly when putting it back into the slot..)
